Design, Demos and Seminars at . . .

Even though we carry some 20,000 costumes, we realize that many productions have specific costuming requirements. Our professional design and production staff are happy to work with your director to create or modify costume items for your production. Because of the higher cost associated with unique creations, groups with smaller budgets find this option is most appropriate for main characters. Modifications to existing costumes will allow you to have a commonality linking the designs, while allowing individual flexibility and variation. This option is quite cost effective for character groups, such as Jacob's wives and Joseph's brothers (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat), the muleteers (Man of La Mancha) or the dancers in the moon scene (Mame). Please see our photo album for these pictures and more.
It is important to remember that intellectual property rights make it illegal to exactly duplicate another artist's design, without their permission. This would include most costumes used in Broadway shows and movies. While we are happy to use similar concepts, color schemes, etc. please do not ask us to break the law. Even "fair use" provisions will seldom protect schools and religious organizations for this type of violation.
Seminars and education at Stages are our way of giving something back to our communities. Many community groups and educational institutions have limited staff or funding. Realizing this, we at Stages, are committed to assisting you in maximizing your theatre experiences. At our shop, anyone is welcome to stop by with questions. We are happy to demonstrate the use of any of our make-up / prosthetic products. For larger groups, such as dance schools, community theatre groups or educational institution theatre programs, one of our designers / make-up artists will be happy to create and present formal, and informal training seminars. The only requirement, in most cases, is that you purchase the materials used, and is subject to availability of staff.
It is also possible to arrange for tours of the shop, itself. Stages is also considering the implementation of a student internship program in cooperation with local drama programs.
